As you go through your week, and the recycling is accumulating, please keep these things in mind as you are assembling things in your recycling bin:
When you bag all materials together, someone has to go through all of it and separate it. Paper is baled separately from cardboard. Glass, plastic, tin, and aluminum should never be bagged with any paper because it is a contaminate. Only newspapers, office paper, paperback books, magazines, catalogs, and phone books can be bagged together.
Some of the things we frequently see that are not recyclable are:
Candy wrappers, snack bags, plastic wrap, paper towels, yogurt containers, aluminum foil, paper plates, straws, fountain drink cups, and plastic in many forms. Only plastic bottles and jars are recyclable.
Please don’t include materials that are dirty. Heavily food contaminated food containers should be rinsed.
If you have any questions on what can be recycled, please call the Recycling Center at 641-683-0685. Remember, sending material to the Recycling Center that isn’t recyclable is the most expensive form of disposal.
