How Do I Dispose of It?

  • Aerosol cans – must be empty – Curbside recycling bin or drop off area at the Recycling Center
  • Air Conditioners – $5 disposal tag required – Place on curb and call 641-682-1700 for bulky item pick-up. One bulky item per week. Appliances may also be taken to the Recycling Center for a $5 disposal fee.
  • Aluminum foil – Dispose of with your regular weekly curbside trash.
  • Antifreeze – Drop off area at the Recycling Center
  • Appliances – $5 Appliance sticker required – place on curb and call 641-682-1700 for bulky item pick-up. One bulky item per week. Appliances may also be taken to the Recycling Center for a $5 disposal fee.
  • Automotive batteries – Drop off area at the Recycling Center
  • Bags – Plastic bags and plastic film wrap are not recyclable and should be disposed of in your regular weekly trash
  • Batteries – automotive or marine – Drop off area at the Recycling Center
  • Batteries – NiCad – Drop off inside at the Recycling Center
  • Batteries – Standard non-rechargeable alkaline batteries – AAA, AA, C, D and 9 volt – Place in regular trash.
  • Bed Frames – Place on curb and call 641-682-1700 for bulky item pick-up. One bulky item per week.
  • Bottles – glass, plastic or metal – Curbside recycling bin
  • Box springs & matresses – Place on curb and call 641-682-1700 for bulky item pick-up. One bulky item per week.
  • Branches – under 3 inches in diameter – can be cut to 3 ft lengths-bundled (no more than 50 lbs) and placed on curb. April-November. Branches may also be hauled to the Landfill, but be sure to tarp your load.
  • Brick – Take to the Ottumwa/Wapello Landfill for disposal.
  • Broken Glass – carefully wrap in newspaper or cardboard and dispose of in your regular trash.
  • Cans, steel and aluminium – Curbside recycling bin or drop off area at the Recycling Center
  • Cardboard – clean – Place in your curbside recycling bin or drop off at Recycling Center.
  • Cardboard – dirty or greasy – Place in your regular weekly trash.
  • Carpet – (cut in 6ft. widths & tied) Place on curb and call 641-682-1700 for bulky item pick-up. One bulky item per week.
  • Catalogs – put in see-through plastic bags and place in recycling bin.
  • Chairs – Place on curb and call 641-682-1700 for bulky item pick-up. One bulky item per week.
  • Computer parts – C.P.U.s, motherboards, power units – Take to Recycling Center or place in regular trash. To drop off computer related items at the Recycling Center some fees apply.
  • Computer towers – Take to Recycling Center or dispose of with your regular weekly curbside trash.
  • Computer monitors, Laptops, Notebooks, and Tablets – Take to Recycling Center for a $4.00 fee or dispose of with your regular weekly curbside trash.
  • Concrete – Take to the Ottumwa/Wapello Landfill for disposal.
  • Couches – Place on curb and call 641-682-1700 for bulky item pick-up. One bulky item per week.

  • Junk Mail – put in see-through plastic bags and place in curbside recycling bin or drop off at Recycling Center.
  • Laptop Computers – Take to Recycling Center E-Waste Bin or dispose of with your regular weekly curbside trash.
  • Laundry Basket – Dispose of with your regular weekly curbside trash.
  • Lawn mowers – Place on curb and call 641-682-1700 for bulky item pick-up. One bulky item per week.
  • Leaves – Place in O/W yard waste bag for curbside collection or deliver to Recycling Center or Landfill.
  • Logs – Deliver to Landfill yard waste area – free disposal.

  • Magazines – put in see-through plastic bags and place in curbside recycling bin or drop off at Recycling Center.

  • Pop and Beer Cartons – These are not recyclable, and they need to go in your regular weekly garbage

  • Office Paper – put in see-through plastic bags and place in curbside recycling bin or drop off at Recycling Center.
  • Ovens – $5 disposal tag required – Place on curb and call 641-682-1700 for bulky item pick-up. One bulky item per week.
  • Paint – usable latex paint in quantities of 1/2 gallon or more. – Drop off area at the Recycling Center
  • Paneling – Take to the Ottumwa/Wapello Landfill for disposal.
  • Paper – put in see-through plastic bags and place in curbside recycling bin or drop off at Recycling Center.
  • Pesticides – Contact the Recycling Center for drop-off appointment.
  • Phone Books – put in see-through plastic bags and place in curbside recycling bin or drop off at Recycling Center.
  • Pizza boxes – If not food stained – recycle. If food stained or greasy, place in regular trash.
  • Plastic buckets – Dispose of with your regular weekly curbside trash.
  • Plastic sheeting – Dispose of with your regular weekly curbside trash.
  • Plates – ceramic, glass or plastic – Dispose of with your regular weekly trash.
  • Plates – disposable type – plastic, paper or Styrofoam – Dispose of with your regular weekly trash.
  • Power cords – Take to Recycling Center E-Waste Bin or dispose of with your regular weekly curbside trash.
  • Printers – Take to Recycling Center E-Waste Bin or dispose of with your regular weekly curbside trash.
  • Refrigerators – $5 disposal tag required – Place on curb and call 641-682-1700 for bulky item pick-up. One bulky item per week.
  • Sharps – Sharps should never be placed in the recycling bin. This is a danger to collectors, and recycling center employees. They can be brought to the Recycling Center in heavy plastic containers only, such as a dish detergent bottle. Call the Recycling Center for more information.
  • Sinks – Place on curb and call 641-682-1700 for bulky item pick-up. One bulky item per week.
  • Small Kitchen appliances like toasters, blenders, coffee makers – place in regular weekly trash.
  • Stoves – $5 disposal tag required – Place on curb and call 641-682-1700 for bulky item pick-up. One bulky item per week.
  • Styrofoam and Packing Peanuts – Dispose of with your regular weekly curbside trash.
  • Tables – Place on curb and call 641-682-1700 for bulky item pick-up. One bulky item per week.
  • Televisions – Place on curb and call 641-682-1700 for bulky item pick-up. One bulky item per week. The Recycling Center can accept them for a $7.00 fee for small TVs and $15.00 for large TVs.
  • Textiles – Drop off area at the Recycling Center.
  • Tires – Drop off at Recycling Center – maximum of five.
  • Toilets – Place on curb and call 641-682-1700 for bulky item pick-up. One bulky item per week.
  • Totes – plastic “rubbermade” type – Dispose of with your regular weekly curbside trash.
  • Transmission fluid – Drop off area at the Recycling Center
  • Tree limbs – under 3 inches in diameter – can be cut to 3 ft lengths-bundled (no more than 50 lbs) and placed on curb. April-November.
  • VCRs – Deliver to Recycling Center E-Waste Bin or dispose of with your regular weekly curbside trash.
  • Washers and Dryers – $5 disposal tag required – Place on curb and call 641-682-1700 for bulky item pick-up. One bulky item per week.

The Recycling Center also has a drop-off area for all recyclable items that are collected at the curb, including grass clippings and leaves. The Recycling Center does not accept limbs and branches. These may be taken to the Landfill at no charge. When goint to the Landfill, be sure to tarp your load to avoid a tarp fee.
